Spotlights of Georgetown
Spanning 102 acres, the university exudes beauty in its Gothic and Georgian brick architecture and its lovely greens of fountains, flowers, and trees. And there are always plenty of fun events to enjoy.
Georgetown is known for its diverse array of international embassies, including Cameroon, France, Kosovo, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Mongolia, Sweden, Thailand, Ukraine, and Venezuela.
Georgetown Waterfront Park
Perhaps one of the most signature sites of Georgetown is its beautiful Waterfront Park along the Potomac River. Shopping, dining, drinking, picnicking, paddling, even ice skating!—it’s all right here.
What You'll Love in Georgetown
With so many great DC neighborhoods from which to choose, it's hard to know which one will be best for you! So here's what local residents (and visitors) truly love about Georgetown.
All the Shopping & Dining
Georgetown is home to not one but two major commercial corridors. The first is along the intersection of Wisconsin Ave and M Street, where you’ll find high-end shops, delicious restaurants and cafes, unique shops and boutiques, galleries, local bars, and so much more. It’s even home to the Georgetown Park enclosed shopping mall.
There are even more outstanding eateries to be enjoyed at the Washington Harbour waterfront district, where you’ll find waterfront outdoor bars and eateries along K Street overlooking the Potomac—like Sequoia, Tony and Joe’s Seafood Place, and Farmers Fishers Bakers.
The Diverse Entertainment Options
Live music, nightlife, art galleries, games… Georgetown has something for everyone. Catch a live jazz show at the famous Blues Alley. Visit Book Hill on Wisconsin Ave to explore all the unique and beautiful local art galleries. Bring some friends or family to Pinstripes to enjoy some bowling or maybe a game of bocce. Try your hand at mysteries at Escape Room Live. Even test your endurance on the “Exorcist Stairs”, a 75-step public outdoor stairwell at 36th and Prospect Streets featured in The Exorcist.
There Are So Many Ways to Get Outside
Georgetown is a community that loves to stay active in the great outdoors. At the Georgetown Waterfront Park, you can take a stroll along the Potomac or maybe rent a kayak or paddleboard to explore DC by water. You can even go skating in winter at DC’s largest ice rink, the Washington Harbour Ice Rink. And of course, the C&O Canal Towpath is a must-do for residents and visitors alike. Bike or walk along the canal-side trail, or just enjoy a relaxing picnic on the surrounding lawns. Enjoy biking? Take a trip along the Capital Crescent Trail, a rails-to-trail path leading north through Bethesda all the way to Silver Spring.
Other local favorites include the beautiful gardens and scenic pathways of Dumbarton Oaks and Montrose Park, and the massive Rock Creek Park offers acres of natural beauty and miles of hiking and biking trails just waiting to be explored.
